Cucumber - the card game.
Cucumber is a simple card game – easy to learn but a little more difficult to master. Of course it is a card game, so luck is an important factor, but there is also a good deal of strategy in this game. Let’s face it… it is not chess… but it’s not “Go fish” either.
Cucumber is not a very common game. It is played heavily in some circuits in Denmark (where the game is called ‘Agurk’ = Danish for Cucumber, or sometimes ‘21’), but unknown in most others circuits. It is – to my knowledge – not on any lists of official cards games.
One of the best things about Cucumber is that it doesn’t take too long to play and it can be played whereever you want to if you have a deck of cards and 10 minutes to kill – it doesn’t require much space. The game can be played with as little as 2 players up till… well I never played with more than 6 players in one game, but more is possible. In this version of the game, however, it will always be played by 4 players to begin with, three of which are controlled by the computer.
The game is freeware so all you have to do is download, unzip, and play.

Highway Escape version 0.95
Highway Escape - a real mindteaser.
Highway Escape is yet another version of a game that exists in several different forms - both online, on handheld computers, and even as a board game.
Why did I choose to make this game then? Well, the main reason was that I needed a simple project to test some techniques in C++ against the Win32 API. At the same time when I make something - even if it is only for testing something else - I prefer to make something that I would also want to use afterwards. Finally, there is one thing I was missing in the versions I have already seen... none of them had an editor included so you could make your own levels (well, the board game probably has that feature), so naturally I included this feature in the game.
The object of the game is - in all its simplicity - to get a particular piece (car) out from the 6x6 square board clearing all other cars from the path. This sounds simple, I know, but the goal is obstructed by the fact that the cars only move in one direction - some vertical, some horizontal and they cannot push other cars away as they would normally do in certain European countries in the given situation. Still sounds simple? Well, then I strongly suggest that you download the game and try to solve the 50 levels of progressively increasing difficulty - some of the highest levels actually require more than 50 moves to get the car out.
